Africa has contributed to, on an average, 10% of the global oil (crude oil and condensates) supply in the last decade. The contribution has been more prominent if we consider only offshore oil supply, with Africa contributing to almost 17% on average in last decade. Within offshore, almost 60% of the oil supply in the last decade from Africa came from deep- and ultradeep-water segment, as a result of which the continent has seen many FPSO projects.

The presentation talks about the following key notes
From Nigeria to Senegal, Africa is proving itself to be a fast-developing FPSO market, with notable projects in 10 countries — and this number looks set to rise.
Already, the continent is home to the world’s largest FPSO, Egina, which was developed in Nigeria by Total Upstream Nigeria, in conjunction with CNOOC, Petrobras and Sapetro. Such developments are expected to continue throughout Africa, with a growing number of companies exploring unchartered territory in new destinations.
Thanks largely to support from governments and investors, as well as the consistency of natural water and wind movement, Africa provides a conducive environment for new FPSO projects to take root. Furthermore, FPSOs have taken advantage of digitisation to accelerate their progress, making sustainable success a reality for an increasing number of oil and gas companies.
As Africa’s biggest natural economic driver, oil and gas has become a trillion-dollar industry in the continent — and it looks set to grow even more.
An abundance of natural resources, government initiatives to support exploration and production, and a general openness to industry-wide cooperation make Africa fertile ground for further development, and it is with this in mind that we bring you FPSO Operations: A Guide to the African Way.
We look at industry giants Total and ExxonMobil and their FPSO projects in Africa, and how their operations in the region have been influenced by their location. At the same time, we offer an overview of resources for research, local partnerships, and the ever-expanding role of operational and information technology in the FPSO market.
